Burlington Northern Railroad

The C&I Subdivision of the Burlington Northern Railroad radiates from Chicago in a northwesterly direction. Beginning in Aurora, Illinois, this line passes through what seems to be endless fields of corn, beans, and wheat on its way to Savanna, Illinois. At that point, it turns north to follow the Mississippi River to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Traffic on this line is comprised mostly of intermodal freight, general merchandise, unit grain and potash trains. There are three yards on the Illinois section located in Eola, Rochelle and Savanna. Yard remnants in Oregon, Illinois are used to work the branch to Mt. Morris and several local industries.
